Treadmill Maintenance

What a visit covers. We check and set belt tension and tracking, inspect the deck for wear and wax it where the tier includes that, vacuum out the motor compartment, and read amp draw against the motor’s rating. What a visit covers. We inspect every cable along its length and especially at the pulleys, check and correct cable tension so paired sides match, clean and lubricate guide rods with the correct product, check bushings and weight-stack travel, tighten fasteners and inspect upholstery.

Why it matters. Strength equipment has no way of telling you it is failing. There is no motor, no console and no loss of performance before a cable goes — the machine works exactly as well the day before as it did a year earlier, and then it fails under load with a stack raised. How the plans are structured

A plan is three choices: which tier, how often, and how many machines. Nothing about it is bespoke or opaque.

  • Tier — Silver, Gold or Platinum. They differ in how far each visit goes, not in how carefully it is done. Gold is the most common choice across our customers.
  • Interval — monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, annual, or a one-time visit. Quarterly is the most common. The right answer is set by how hard the room is used rather than by the calendar.
  • Machine count — plans are priced in bands of ten pieces (1-10, 11-20, 21-30 and upward), counting cardio and strength equipment. A room of 14 machines and a room of 19 sit in the same band.
  • Portfolio pricing — preventive maintenance can be priced across several properties with a volume discount as more come on. Repairs stay quoted per property.
  • Plan customers pay less for repairs. Facilities on a maintenance plan get a reduced labor rate and a discount on parts for repair work, so the saving is not limited to the maintenance visits themselves. The rates that apply to your plan are set out in your quote.

What each tier covers

Silver inspects, adjusts and calibrates, and lubricates visible pivot points and guide rods. Gold adds internal cleaning and vacuuming, treadmill deck waxing, upholstery cleaning and fuller lubrication of elevation systems, chains, gears and bushings. Platinum adds exterior cleaning and a per-equipment-type checklist including electrical and diagnostic checks — motor brushes, amp draw, error codes and usage hours.

A machine-by-machine report is produced at every tier, not just at Platinum. That record is what a board, a city or a clinic can put in its files, and it is what answers the question actually asked after an incident: was the equipment inspected, and is there anything in writing to show it.

The Platinum checklist is genuinely per machine — 13 checks on a treadmill, 12 on a stepper, 10 on an exercise bike, 9 on a spin bike or elliptical, 7 on strength equipment. Each equipment page lists its own in full.

Which equipment benefits most

  • Strength equipment, by a distance. A selectorized machine works exactly as well the day before a cable fails as it did a year earlier. There is no console, no noise and no warning — only what an inspection finds.
  • Stair climbers. Chains, cables and springs carry a user’s full body weight and cannot be assessed from the console.
  • Treadmills. Amp draw is the measurement that shows a machine straining before anyone using it can feel a problem.
  • Spin bikes. The friction pad is a consumable; run past its life it scores the flywheel, turning a cheap part into an expensive one.

How often should our equipment be serviced?

It is set by use rather than by the calendar. Quarterly is the most common choice across our customers, but a heavily used club floor or a 24-hour station gym may need monthly, while a lightly used corporate room can sit on bi-annual or annual. Plans are available monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, annual or as a one-time visit.

How are the plans priced?

On the tier, the interval, and the number of cardio and strength pieces at the facility, counted in bands of ten. A room of 14 machines and a room of 19 sit in the same band. Preventive maintenance can also be priced across a portfolio of properties with a volume discount as more come on.

Can someone come look at our equipment before we commit to a plan?

Usually, yes — on many jobs we offer a complimentary walk through of the fitness room first, so the plan is quoted against what is actually on your floor rather than a guess at it. It is worth asking for when you get in touch. Where we offer it, it is set out in that quote, which is what governs the work. It is a different visit from a paid trip and diagnostic, which is what we book when a specific machine is already down and needs a fault found.

Does being on a plan save us anything on repairs?

Yes. Facilities on a maintenance plan get a reduced labor rate and a discount on parts when repair work is needed, so the benefit is not confined to the scheduled visits. It matters because a plan does not eliminate repairs — it finds them earlier and smaller — and the work that does come up is charged at the plan rate. Your specific rates are set out in your quote.

It helps. Manufacturers are required to supply maintenance instructions under ASTM F2276, and several expect evidence that equipment was maintained to that schedule before honoring a claim. A dated, machine-by-machine record is exactly the documentation that question calls for.
