Gym Equipment Upholstery Repair and Reupholstery

On Site Fitness Service repairs and replaces gym equipment upholstery across Texas, alongside the repair and maintenance work we have done since 2007 across more than 30,000 service calls in over 300 Texas cities. We collect the pads from your facility, recover them, and come back to reinstall them — whether that is one split seat or an entire room brought back to a single look.

How it works

Upholstery is the one part of our work that is not finished entirely at your facility, and it is worth being clear about that. The machines stay where they are. What travels is the pads.

  • We look at the equipment and quote it. Nothing starts without an approved quote for that property. We will tell you which pieces are worth recovering and which, if any, are genuinely past it.
  • We remove the pads. Seats, backrests, chest pads, leg pads, benches — whatever is being recovered comes off the frame.
  • They are reupholstered off site. A tear can be repaired, or the pad recovered completely if it is beyond a patch or if you want the room to match.
  • We come back and reinstall them. The pads go back on the machines they came off, and the equipment is checked over while we are there.

Because we are already the people servicing this equipment, the visit doubles up: a technician reinstalling pads is a technician who can also look at the cables, guide rods and bushings on the same machine. On a selectorized piece that matters, because strength equipment gives no warning before a cable fails.

When it is worth doing

  • A split or torn cover. The most common reason people call, and the most urgent — a split exposes foam that cannot be wiped down or sanitized, at the exact point where every user makes direct skin contact.
  • Cracked, hardened or sun-faded vinyl. Pads by a window or in a hot room go brittle and then split. Recovering before they tear is cheaper than after, and avoids the machine being out of use twice.
  • A room that no longer matches. Equipment bought in different years rarely matches, and mismatched pads make a well-maintained room look neglected. Recovering to one color is often the cheapest visible upgrade a facility can make.
  • Rebranding or a refurbishment. New management, a new brand standard, or a remodel of the space — the equipment can be brought to the new colors without replacing any of it.
  • Getting a room ready to show. Leasing an apartment community, a hotel inspection, or a facility being handed over: upholstery is the first thing a visitor reads as “cared for” or “not”.

The economics are usually straightforward. A selectorized frame outlasts its pads by a long way, so a machine that looks finished is often a machine that needs covers rather than replacement.

Turnaround, options and what affects the cost

We are usually out to look at the pads within 48 to 72 hours of an approved quote, and turnaround from collection is usually 5 to 10 business days, depending on the size of the order. A handful of pads moves faster than a whole room, and we will give you a date with the quote rather than after the pads have gone.

You can have as much or as little rebuilt as the pad needs. A pad is three things — the board it is built on, the foam, and the vinyl cover — and any of them can be replaced on their own or together:

  • Cover only. The board and foam are sound and only the vinyl has torn, cracked or faded. The cheapest option and the most common.
  • Cover and foam. The padding has gone flat, hard or damp as well as the cover having failed. Recovering over dead foam only fixes how it looks.
  • Cover, foam and board. The board underneath has cracked, warped or lost its fixings, usually on older equipment or after water damage.

All colors and vinyls are available, so pads can be matched to what you already have or changed completely to bring a mismatched room to one look.

There is no minimum quantity — one torn seat is a job we will take. A trip charge and a labor charge to reinstall apply, which is why doing several pads at once is usually better value than doing them one at a time as they fail.

We cover the whole state. Work inside the Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, Houston and San Antonio metros carries no travel charge; outside those a travel charge applies, and we will tell you what it is when we quote.

What we recover

Seats, backrests, chest and leg pads, preacher pads, benches, and the pads on selectorized and plate-loaded strength equipment, functional trainers and multi-station gyms. Cardio equipment has less upholstery on it, but recumbent bike seats and backrests are recovered too.

On Site Fitness Service has worked across Texas since 2007 and has completed more than 30,000 service calls in over 300 Texas cities. Our technicians are factory trained, so a machine having its pads reinstalled can have its mechanical service done in the same visit rather than needing a second one.

Upholstery and your maintenance plan

Upholstery condition is already inspected on every Platinum strength visit — “Check Upholstery for Tears or Excessive Wear” is a line on that checklist. What the inspection cannot do on its own is fix it, which is where this service comes in.

If you are on a plan, the practical arrangement is that we flag pads as they start to go rather than when they have failed, so recovering can be scheduled with the rest of the year’s work instead of becoming an emergency after a member complains. See our maintenance programs, or what a strength equipment visit covers.

Upholstery Repair FAQs

How long does reupholstery take?

Usually 5 to 10 business days from collection, depending on the size of the order — a few pads come back faster than a whole room. You get a date with the quote rather than after the pads have already gone, so you can plan around the equipment being down.

What does it cost?

It varies by pad and by how far the rebuild goes: replacing the vinyl cover only is the cheapest and most common, then cover and foam, then cover, foam and board where the board underneath has cracked or warped. There is no minimum quantity, though a trip charge and a labor charge to reinstall apply — which is why doing several pads in one visit is usually better value than doing them one at a time.

Do you replace the whole machine pad or just repair the tear?

Either, and you can also have just part of it rebuilt. A pad is a board, foam and a vinyl cover, and any of those can be replaced individually or together. A single clean split can often be repaired; where a pad has multiple tears or the foam has gone flat, recovering is the better answer — the machine underneath is usually sound long after the upholstery has stopped looking it.

Does the equipment have to leave our facility?

No — the machines stay where they are. We remove the pads, take them away to be reupholstered, and come back to reinstall them. That is the one part of our work that is not done entirely on site, and we schedule it around how you want to handle the machine in the meantime.

Can we change the color rather than match the original?

Yes. Plenty of the reupholstery we do is not about damage at all — it is a facility updating a tired room, matching new branding, or bringing mismatched equipment from different eras back to one look. Tell us what you are trying to match and we will work to it.

Is reupholstery cheaper than replacing the machine?

Almost always, and it is usually not close. A selectorized frame outlasts its pads by a long way, so a machine that looks finished is often a machine that needs covers rather than replacement. We will tell you when a piece genuinely is past the point of being worth it rather than recovering something that should be retired.

Why does torn upholstery matter beyond how it looks?

It is a hygiene problem first. A split cover exposes foam that cannot be wiped down or sanitized, in the one place on the machine where every user makes direct skin contact. It is also a reliable sign that a piece is taking more use than the room assumes, which is worth knowing before something mechanical fails too.

Do you do this for apartment gyms and small facilities, or only big clubs?

Any size, and there is no minimum quantity — one torn seat is a job we will take. We service apartment and condo fitness rooms, HOAs, hotels, corporate wellness rooms, fire and police stations, senior-living communities, clinics and full health clubs across Texas. Nothing starts without an approved quote for that property.

Do you cover facilities outside the big metros?

Yes, anywhere in Texas. Work inside the Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, Houston and San Antonio metros carries no travel charge. Outside those a travel charge applies, and we tell you what it is when we quote rather than adding it afterwards.
