What goes wrong, from our repair notes

Lower control boards

The fault we trace most often on Star Trac treadmills. We look for burn marks on the board, and where a room has more than one of the same treadmill, swapping boards with the neighboring unit is the quickest way to prove which part has failed.

Drive belts and motors

A worn drive belt is worth replacing before it fails: we have found drive belts shredded badly enough to damage the motor. Motor control speed errors are traced to the motor or the board that drives it.

Elevation stall and lost communication

Incline faults show up as an elevation stall, sometimes alongside a lost-communication error, and clearing one can take an incline motor, a data cable and a lower board. It is the kind of fault that needs Core’s technical support on the phone and a methodical test order.

Keypads, speed sensors and heart rate

Keypads that stop responding, speed sensors replaced together with the lower board, and heart rate sensors that no longer read through the grips. On the 4 Series, a failed overlay or console back cover means a complete new console, because Core does not sell those parts separately.

Warranty work

We are an authorized service center for Core Health & Fitness, and Core accounts for more of our warranty work than any other manufacturer. Core requires the technician’s close-out notes before it ships a warranty part, so every diagnosis is written up in the detail Core asks for; covered labor is billed to Core rather than to you. Nautilus strength and Schwinn bikes

Core Health & Fitness also makes Nautilus strength equipment, which our authorization covers, and Schwinn indoor cycles, which we repair as well. Since December 2024 we have logged more than 450 repairs on Nautilus Instinct, Impact and Inspiration machines. Most are cables: frayed, snapped, or jumped off a pulley. The rest include snapped guide-rod bolts, belts that have slipped off a pulley, and linear bearings on leg presses.

On Schwinn bikes the repairs in our notes are pedals and crank arms with damaged threads, brake and resistance assemblies that make a bike hard to pedal, and the occasional flywheel bearing, found with a mechanic’s stethoscope.

Getting it repaired

By machine type: treadmill repair, elliptical repair, exercise bike repair, spin bike repair, weight machine repair. Every repair is quoted for that property and approved before work starts, and because nobody stocks every part for every model, most are finished on a return visit once the part arrives.
